Georg Whelan

Constantly drawing, Georg often uses objects and surfaces around him when paper is not immediately available; toying with sculpture and mixed media. His works of Vietnam are highly expressive, colourful and playful; painting an individualistic perspective of street scenes and everyday life - typically covered with motifs, words, letters, numerals and pictograms. Observing daily rituals and constructed narratives, he references a spectrum of sources from historical figures to bathroom graffiti. With his art focusing on opposites and parodies, and dichotomies such as normalities and peculiarities; he gives a refreshing and unconventional take on society. George Whelan - champion, protagonist, rule-breaker, hero or misfit - you decide.
