An Artistic Immersion into Contemporary Vietnam

Inspired by the Year of the Snake, symbolizing transformation, Vietnam Opening Doors presents a renewed vision of a dynamic Vietnam. More than an exhibition, it invites visitors into the intimate heart of Vietnam, moving beyond conventional imagery to reveal a country in artistic evolution.

The exhibition serves as a bridge between past and future, showcasing a multidisciplinary approach—from visual arts and design to fashion and craftsmanship. Through the works of renowned and emerging artists, it explores themes of identity, migration, and tradition in flux.

“This ongoing dialogue between old and new reflects today’s Vietnam—a nation reinterpreting its past to engage with contemporary issues.”

Adrien de Calvairac - Co-founder & Creative Director of 11:11 Group

Beyond individual artworks, it is the overall experience that takes precedence. The exhibition becomes a bridge between generations—between those who explore historical traumas, such as Trần Trọng Vũ, and those like Jacqueline Lam, who push the boundaries of what it means to be Vietnamese today. Vietnamese artists use this in-between space as a creative platform, producing works that resonate both personally and collectively. From reimagined ceramics to textile installations, each piece tells a chapter of their country’s history, intimately linked to their personal narratives.

Entering the intimacy of Vietnam means stepping into a living space where every piece is designed to awaken the senses and provoke thought. Visitors are invited to experience the exhibition as one would enter someone’s story—with curiosity, empathy, and kindness. Vietnam Opening Doors transforms perceptions through installations, multimedia works, and symbolic objects. Each piece becomes a window into a specific aspect of Vietnamese culture. For instance, Trọng Gia Nguyễn challenges us to reflect on the notion of home, particularly in the context of the Vietnamese diaspora experience.

Vietnam Opening Doors is a space for passage and exchange, where each piece unfolds a story imbued with poetry—in gestures, objects, clothing, and modern customs. Every artwork subtly testifies to the central role of craftsmanship in Vietnam. The meticulous attention to detail and the significance of traditional techniques reflect a deep-rooted culture of handmade artistry and care for materials. Similarly, spirituality—deeply ingrained in Vietnam through ancestral worship and Buddhism—is palpable in the works of Chinh Lê, whose art blends meditation, serenity and contemplation.
